50 YEARS AGO (Dec. 25, 1959 Issue) Santa Claus made his pre-Christmas visit to Loomis by arriving in time for the Loomis Lions Club Christmas party and potluck at the Woman’s Clubhouse. Members of the club assisted Santa with the distribution of treats to all of the children present and a gift exchange was held among the members and their families. Friday was the first time that many of the children of the Loomis area had a chance to visit with Santa. He arrived at the Loomis Union Grammar School to visit with the children and to pass out treats. He was assisted by members of the Loomis P.T.A. executive board. 25 YEARS AGO (Dec. 27, 1984 Issue) A check for $620 was presented to Randy Mayhew, a member of the Placer Nevada County 4-H Camp Restoration Committee, by Stephanie Mahlberg, treasurer of the Loomis 4-H Club. The money was colleced from donations made in memory of the late Markey Rasmussen, lifelong Loomis resident and former Loomis 4-H Club leader. His widow, Vivian Rasmussen, was present for the presentation. 10 YEARS AGO (Dec. 23, 1999 Issue) An open house was held to honor the life of Norma Colleen VanLiew, 64, a native of Hutchison, Kan. The proposed Loomis General Plan included keeping the residential density similar to current densities to continue a semi-rural community. Mary Ann and Ed Horton were the hosts for the Loomis Basin Historical Society holiday potluck. Members enjoyed seeing Mary Ann’s miniature holiday displays. Loomis School students performed for a holiday celebration. Singing a Christmas song in “doggie voices” were Sunny Patterson, Mitch Bezaire, Kaitlin Mishler, Heather Bair and Nicole Siminski. Samantha Kotelnicki, Kelly Marshall, Kelly Coker and Rachel Licciardello were among many volunteers filling Christmas food baskets. All the girls were Troop 1332 Girl Scouts.
