50 YEARS AGO (MARCH 21, 1958 Issue) Ronnie Brown celebrated his 12th birthday by inviting several of his friends for refreshments and a skating party given by his mother, Mrs. Herman Brown. Ronnie's guests were Ronnie Yokote, Tim Gammelgard, Jim Struble, Bill Tudsbury and Dennis Kondo. Warren Coleman was honored with a farewell party when Cub Scout Den 1 met at the home of their Den Mother, Mrs. Bruce Barnes. Warren is now a member of theWebelos Den. Cubs enjoying games and refreshments were Graciano Jaurequi, Dana Day, Dickie Howard, Owen Barnes, Sonny Smith, Charles Gieck, Ted Kitada and Den Chief Ronnie Traylor. 25 YEARS AGO (MARCH 24, 1983 Issue) The Golden Eagle varsity and junior varsity teams got wins in inter-league action from the Folsom Bulldogs in games played in Folsom. Cheree Cottros got a three-hitter in the 10-3 varsity win and the JV team came up with 14 runs in the second inning for a 29-7 win. Brenda Ellis, Juanita Roman and Kathy Gazzamiga each had two RBIs in the varsity tilt which saw the Bulldogs give up 15 walks. The Eagles had 11 hits in the game. Cottros walked seven and struck out five in the game. It was her second win of the season. 10 YEARS AGO (MARCH 19, 1998 Issue) Troop 1332 Girl Scouts learned about first aid from leaders Jean and Lyle Vadrais. The scouts included April Potter, Jessica Frederiksen, Sara Larsen, Kelly Marshall, April Tourtillott and Rachel Licciardello. Katrina Worley of Loomis demonstrated bobbin lace making as part of Sarah's Quilting Party, an annual women's history event in Coloma. New Mown Manager Art Rangel was hosted at a reception held at Emma's Gathering Place. Crocker Art Museum's mobile museum Art Ark visited Placer School. Among the students enjoying the experience were Shelby Naake, Brandon Grimes, Stephanie Browne, Jared Maillard, David Outlaw, Chris Jones, Tamara Smith, Kevin Ash and Garrett Gillum. Coming within one game of a state championship, the Del Oro boys basketball team lost to Enterprise to decide the Northern California champion. The game was played at the Oakland Coliseum. Jaxson Kochamp medaled at the State Wrestling Championships. Other Del Oro wrestlers qualifying for the meet were Matt Hendren, Clinton Alexander, West Schroeder, Mike Anderson and Levi Brunello. Kindergarten Students of the Week were Tristin Morgan, Meghan Jahnsen, Shane Akers, Daniel Evans, Camille Farquhar, Chloe Sanchez, Cory Willingham and Tina Baxter-Barnett (Loomis School); and Jacob Day, C.J. Rico, and Tatum Getty (Placer School).
