50 YEARS AGO (Jan. 23, 1959 Issue) Miss Nicki Hansen, 11-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hansen of Loomis, was to appear on the ?Mark Your Calendar? program on Channel 10 with the Sacramento Junior Ballet Company. The group was publicizing their second annual major performance, La Boutique Fantasque, to be presented at the Sacramento Junior College auditorium. Miss Hansen was a charter member of the company that was organized in the spring of 1958. 25 YEARS AGO (Jan. 26, 1984 Issue) Thomas and Kathryn Leupp of Loomis were the parents of their second daughter, Alicia Breanne, who was born Dec. 19. She was welcomed home by her sister, Katrina Marie, 22 months old. Grandparents are Edwin and Lois Leak of Auburn, Richard Leupp of Penryn, and Ardienne and Al Knight of Eldorado Hills. Her great-grandparents are Kate Leak of Loomis and Dorothy Leupp of Richmond. 10 YEARS AGO (Jan. 21, 1999 Issue) A portion of the old Savings Corner Market was on Union Pacific Railroad property. That portion of the structure was torn down. The owner, Jim Anderson, planned to remodel the remaining part of the building. The market was located on the west side of Taylor Road between Horseshoe Bar and Webb. The Loomis Basin Interfaith Consortium organized a festival to celebrate the community?s diversity of religious and ethnic backgrounds. Planning the event were Rev. Pam Cummings, Thaya Craig and Karen Fox. In attendance were members of the Methodist, Assembly of God, Jewish and Mormon faith,s as well as members of the JACL. Del Oro took third place in the tough Gary Bianchini Wrestling Tournament in Cupertino. Placing for the Golden Eagles were Brett Del Balso, Zack Sanchez, Rustin Banks and Travis Duke. Matt Brunello had his best performance of the year while placing third, and Mike Anderson, ranked seventh in the state, took home a gold medal. The Del Oro girls basketball team was 15-1 overall after outscoring Rocklin and Oakmont. Playing with great intensity were Jamie Williams, Courtney Schaefer and Erin Halvorson. The Del Oro boys also beat the same teams with the Oakmont game going to triple overtime. Helping with the wins were Jared Joyner, Randall Dumler and Matt Roth. Bro. Marcello DiNardo prepared for the annual Crab Dinner and Dance for the Mt. St. Joseph Seminary of Loomis. Sonja Maggard, who works at Town Hall, joined the ranks of CIMBL to help clean along the roads in Loomis. Helen Florance, CIMBL captain for Loomis, said, ?We need a lot of concerned citizens to make Loomis beautiful.?
