Hats off to Newcastle and Auburn area residents for supporting the Newcastle Golden Spike Lions Clubs' first E-Waste Collection Day event on March 6. At the end of the day our arms felt longer than our legs as we gazed at the last dumpster piled high with e-waste. You drove up in cars and trucks to drop off out-dated televisions, computers, monitors and other small electronic devices. Our free pick-up service helped those who couldn't make the drop off and together we collected 23,540 pounds of e-waste and raised $2,178.70. If you want to learn more about Lions Clubs International or how you can become a member of the Newcastle Golden Spike Lions Club, you are invited to attend one of our meetings. We welcome people who want to volunteer their time and make a difference. We meet at 6:45 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the Portuguese Hall on Taylor Road in Newcastle. Or call me at 652-3556 for more information. Susan Lee Giles, Loomis
