Catch the holiday spirit and browse or shop for unique gifts at special events sponsored by local merchants this season.

High-Hand Nursery will kick off the season with their annual Holiday Lighting Celebration on Friday, Nov. 30, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The whole family can spend the evening strolling through the festively decorated fruit sheds, enjoying live music, food, drink, vintage cars and a model train and visiting all the shops.

Carolers will wander the property and live music can be enjoyed at both Tre Vigne wine tasting room, which will sell hot mulled wine and wine by the glass; and High Hand Conservatory Cafe, which will sell hot chocolate and cider.

“Last year we had over 700 people here and the atmosphere was so Christmasy without throwing Santa Claus at you or pressuring you to buy something. It’s purely about getting in the Christmas spirit, not religious, but getting into family, friends and having fun together,” said Amanda Duncan, local artisan and owner of Beatrice Taylor Candle Shop.

High-Hand Nursery and Flower Market will offer up to 40 percent in discounts on their unique plants, pottery, garden art and gifts to shoppers who bring donations for the Loomis Basin Christmas Baskets and the Placer County SPCA this one night only. Check www.highhand.com for requested items.

Gifts for wine lovers from Tre Vigne include local wines from Ciotti Cellars, Cristaldi Vineyards and Popie Wines, wine club memberships, gift shop items and gift certificates for wine tastings.

The Tin Thimble offers quality hand-crafted clothing and gifts, including fabric and notions; vintage patterns, linens, trims and buttons, and felting supplies. Gift certificates for sewing, knitting and felting classes make great gifts and stocking stuffers.

Truckee Mountain Rug Co. sells its authentic, hand-knotted Persian rugs for 50 percent off during the holidays, as well as ethnic clothing, jewelry, bags, wall hangings, and decorative gourds. They also clean and repair Persian carpets.

Beatrice Taylor Candle Shop will hold a candle making class and sale during the celebration. The shop features hand-made local crafts, artwork and books, along with their own line of natural and custom candles, soaps and lotions made in-house.

Find anything from special cards, ornaments and jewelry to sculpture, ceramics, paintings, photography, textiles, art glass, wood and mixed media made by 35 local artists at High-Hand Art Gallery.

The Vintage Bricoleur will celebrate its first anniversary Nov. 30 to Dec. 1 with 20 percent off most items and offers free gift wrapping in December. The store offers a wide variety of vintage and antique home decor, jewelry, gifts and classes in furniture painting, jewelry making and music wreath construction.

Loomis Spa and Boutique will serve appetizers and drinks at their Shopping Open House on Sunday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. They offer all kinds of gifts, including ornaments, scarves, hats and ear warmers; shoes, sweaters and wraps; tea, jams and dips; jewelry, perfume and lotions; and gift certificates for massages and facials.

Sarah Whitcomb Antiques and Blue Goose Produce will hold a Holiday Open House on Thursday, Dec. 6, from 6 to 9 p.m. The dealers at Sarah Whitcomb will welcome guests with free refreshments and a sale. Blue Goose Produce will offer samples of oils from Earth & Vine Provisions and other products throughout the store as well as bags of mandarins.

Scores of local artists, craftsmen and dealers will gather to sell a variety of unique, hand crafted and vintage gifts and decor items from booths at the Loomis Holiday Gift Faire at The Horse and Buggy Consignment, Antiques and More on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature a large selection of artwork, furniture, pillows, linens, jewelry, art glass, home and garden gifts and crafts.
