“Strategies for Successful Aging” is the theme of the 6th annual Elder Conference, sponsored by the Placer County District Attorney’s office. The conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at William Jessup University located at 333 Sunset Boulevard, in Rocklin. There is no fee to attend the conference, which also includes a complimentary continental breakfast will be provided. Lunch will be available for purchase. Seniors, who hold most of the assets in the country, have become targets of abuse. Perpetrators prey upon their vulnerability and trusting ways. The seminar will help educate the community about the types of abuse being perpetrated in Placer County, and what seniors can do to protect themselves. It will also provide information available to seniors. The keynote speaker will be San Diego County Deputy District Attorney Paul Greenwood. He has been a prosecutor with the San Diego District Attorney’s Office for over 15 years and has prosecuted more than 200 felony elder and dependant adult abuse cases, including eight murder cases. Following the conference, guests will be encouraged to stay and attend the resource fair. The fair will include over 50 vendors who provide valuable services to seniors and dependant adults through the county. Flu shots will also be administered; they are free to Medicare recipients with a card and will be available to others for a nominal fee.
