Del Oro’s Lady Eagles volleyball squad will brace for a key upcoming three-match swing which could go a long way in determining this season’s Sierra Foothill League champion. The Lady Eagles entered this week’s SFL play mired in a three-way logjam for first place with Rocklin and Granite Bay. Del Oro, 3-1 in the SFL, was knocked from the league’s unbeaten ranks last Tuesday at home against Granite Bay in a four game setback, 25-13, 25-27, 25-21, 25-22. The Lady Eagles will now try and focus on three critical upcoming matches that begin next Tuesday (Oct. 18) when Del Oro hosts Rocklin. That contest will be followed by a home match on Oct. 20 versus Nevada Union and an away rematch at Granite Bay on Oct. 25. In last week’s win over Roseville, despite being without the services of key senior Tatum Jungsten, the Lady Eagles topped the Tigers 25-8, 25-14, 22-25, 25-14. Stephanie Geyer filled in more than ably for Jungsten, who was on a visit to the University of Albany in New York, where she committed to play next year. Geyer collected 11 kills, six blocks and served 10 of 11 points. Also playing well were Morgan Lees who added nine kills, 21 digs and seven aces and Megan Hentschke who tossed in 17 digs and two aces. Bailey Harrison was also perfect from the serving line (13x13) with two aces. In the loss to Granite Bay, Del Oro received eight kills, 11 assists and 11 digs from Lees while Stephanie Solich served up 10 points with three aces. Others contributing for the Lady Eagles included Laura Hunt who scored seven points with two aces for the Eagles, Hentschke who hustled for 30 digs and Jungsten who added eight blocks. ~ Staff report
