Team depth played a pivotal role for the Del Oro girls cross country team last Saturday, as the Lady Eagles captured first place varsity team honors in the Del Oro 4000 invitational meet, held in Loomis. Led by Alexa Lua and Dominique Tristant, who placed third and eighth overall respectively, the Lady Eagles finished with 54 points to out-run second place finishing Rocklin (68), and third place Pleasant Grove (87). Lua covered the 4000 meter course in 15:41, while Tristant’s time was 16:21. Following in for Del Oro with more key finishes were Libby Runte, who took 11th in 16:36, and Megan Gentes, who was 14th in 16:41. Rounding out the winning effort for the Lady Eagles were Emily Nash, 19th in 16:55; Lizzie Meredith, 20th in 16:55; and Maddy Montgomery, 21st in 17:04. Del Oro’s boys received a fine individual effort from junior Trevor Stephens in the varsity race. Stephens out-dueled Whitney’s Ryan Hodgers by one second to win the first place medal. Stephens clocked a winning mark of 12:55. The Golden Eagle boys finished fourth in the varsity ranks with 78 points. Rocklin (42) copped first place, while Jesuit (55) was second, and Pleasant Grove (59) came in third. Following Stephens in for Del Oro were Sam Baker in sixth (13:37), Austin Dawson in 21st (14:14), Dustin Pennhenry in 26th (14:21), Kyle Woo in 30th (14:30) and Blake DuPriest in 38th (14:47). Del Oro’s JV girls squad also fashioned a winning effort with Jennifer Kelly, Anna Paraskevopoul and Amanda Marshall leading the way. In addition, Del Oro freshman Aleena Gingerch took third in the girls frosh-soph race in a time of 17:33. For the JV boys, Brad Whaler was fourth in 15:21, while teammate Joe Ganoung took seventh in 15:25. Race Nelson placed 10th in the frosh-soph boys run in a time of 15:03.
