Lady Eagles stay perfect in SFL

-A +A
A five-run rally in the sixth inning paved the way for the Del Oro girls softball team to come from behind and notch a key 7-4 win at Rocklin last week. The come-from-behind win over Rocklin — coupled with an easy 12-0 victory at Nevada Union — kept the Lady Eagles (7-0) undefeated in Sierra Foothill League play and also cinched the team a CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Div. II playoff berth. Del Oro was slated to face Granite Bay on Tuesday and with a win the Lady Eagles could have cinched at least a tie for the SFL crown. However, the Lady Eagles are slated to meet their two closest pursuers — Roseville (5-2) and Woodcreek (5-2) in their two closing SFL games. The Roseville contest is slated for today at 4 p.m. at Del Oro, while the Woodcreek game will be at 4 p.m., Tuesday in Roseville at Matheny Park. In the triumph at Rocklin, Del Oro found itself trailing 4-1 in the sixth before the Lady Eagle bats came alive and started finding holes and gaps in the Thunder defense. Delivering the key hits for the Lady Eagles were Whitney Smith and Carly Beasley. Both garnered two hits and drove n three runs apiece. Hannah George also added a pair of doubles while Courtney Smith chipped in with two more raps. Rocklin touched Del Oro pitcher Jordan Courage for 12 hits but the Lady Eagle hurler kept the damage minimal. Courage had a big day at the plate in the easy victory at Nevada Union. Courage cracked two doubles and a triple and drove in two runs. Smith and Hannah George both added triples while Ciera Clark, Aspen Echelmeier, Madi Galuszka and Carissa Cutter all contributed two hits each in the win. ~ Staff report
