The Del Oro Lady Eagles were still in the thick of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Div. II playoffs as of Tuesday’s Loomis News sports deadline. Tuesday evening, the Lady Eagles were set to meet Ponderosa in an elimination game at the Sacramento Softball Complex. The Lady Eagles needed a win in that game to get a repeat shot at Oak Ridge in Wednesday’s championship round. Del Oro had its nine-game winning streak halted on Monday night as Oak Ridge and sophomore hurler Kasey Stanchek blanked the Lady Eagles, 2-0. Ponderosa, meanwhile, remained in contention with a 5-1 win over Rosemont in a loser’s bracket game. Stanchek fired a one-hitter at the Lady Eagles and allowed just two base-runners, one on an infield hit off the bat of Annette Merjano and the other when Aspen Echelmeir reached via an error. The contest developed into a pitcher’s duel between Stanchek and Del Oro’s Savannah Pingree. Pingree scattered five hits and fanned five batters but was victimized in the fifth inning when a two-out infield error allowed both of Oak Ridge’s runs to cross the plate. Del Oro had opened the tournament in impressive fashion on Friday night as the Lady Eagles romped past Sacramento High, 14-0. The Lady Eagles then returned on Saturday for a nail-biting 2-1 win over Ponderosa. The Lady Eagles are now 22-7 overall on the season. The Sierra Foothill League champions have won 13 of their past 14 games.
