The Del Oro Lady Eagles softball team went 2-2 in last weekend’s LaDoux Tournament played in Roseville.
Del Oro, now 7-5 on the season, opened the tournament with a 3-2 win over Marysville as pitcher Carly Xepoleas stopped the Indians on a one-hitter with eight strikeouts. Courtney Smith led the offense with a pair of hits, while freshman Elena Topete added a RBI double.
In their next outing, the Lady Eagles committed four errors and didn’t recover from Casa Roble scoring eight times in the third inning on the way to an 11-4 setback to the Rams. Smith and Molly Fowkes both paired raps for Del Oro, which stranded nine base-runners in the game.
Del Oro then bounced back with a strong showing in a 7-1 verdict over Del Campo as Xepoleas silenced the Cougars on just one hit and spiced the effort with eight strikeouts.
The Lady Eagles scored six times in a big first inning and never looked back. Fowkes led the win with two hits, while Hanna Miller added a RBI double and freshman Taya Ruiz contributed a two-run double.
Del Oro then dropped a see-saw 8-6 contest to Vista del Lago in its final game. Ruiz had two hits with a double for the Lady Eagles.
Del Oro will resume Sierra Foothill League action on April 1, when they host Nevada Union at 4 p.m.
