Lady Eagles Off to 2-0 SFL start Del Oro’s Lady Eagles volleyball team opened up Sierra Foothill League play with a pair of big road victories to go 2-0 on the early league season. The Lady Eagles stunned the Thunder against the defending SFL champions, last Tuesday in Rocklin, by virtue of their 25-22, 25-21 win. Rocklin was undefeated in the SFL last season and went on to win the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II title. Junior Morgan Lees sparked a balanced Del Oro attack with 10 kills. She also served 14-for-14, including the final point of the match. Senior Tatum Jungsten was outstanding with eight kills and six blocks and Stephanie Solich contributed eight kills. Meanwhile, Megan Hentschke had a great match at libero with 14 digs and nearly perfect passing. She also served up nine points with one ace. Sophomore Amanda Heyn dished out 28 assists and was 12-for-13 at the service line. The win for the Lady Eagles avenged an earlier loss at the hands of the Thunder in a two-game sweep at the Chris Craft Memorial Tournament earlier this month. On Thursday at Nevada Union, the Lady Eagles survived the long road trip by outlasting the Miners, 23-25, 27-25, 17-25, 25-21. Lees and Solich once again had strong matches by accounting for 18 and 15 kills, respectively. Jungsten added 16 service points, while Hentschke and Heyn both recorded 17 digs apiece. Del Oro hosts Roseville in a SFL tripleheader today with frosh action beginning at 5 p.m. followed by JV and varsity action. ~ Staff report
