A Roseville man killed while walking across a freeway Saturday has been identified as Leroy Elledge, Jr. California Highway Patrol confirmed the 52-year-old’s identity Wednesday after his sister spoke with the Press Tribune. Connie Rorman said she didn’t know what made her brother cross eastbound Interstate 80, near East Roseville Parkway at 8:20 p.m. He had recently been released from Sutter Roseville Medical Center after a heavy night of drinking. Saturday, he set out for a pack of cigarettes after downing Valium and probably got disoriented, she said. CHP said the Placer County coroner would need a couple weeks to determine any chemicals in Elledge’s blood. The man was struck fatally by a 1994 Mercedes, whose driver did not appear to be at fault, CHP said. Elledge was a recovering alcoholic with a history of family abuse, according to Rorman. He was living with her and working odd jobs. She called him a “people person” who helped the elderly, taught himself the guitar, worked magic with wood and did well in school when he was younger. “He had such a sense of humor, you never knew what he would come up with,” Rorman said through tears.
