Kelsey Becker takes league tennis singles’ title

Kelsey Becker, a Del Oro High School junior, captured the Sierra Foothill League girls tennis title, beating Karolina Kecki in the final in Loomis. Becker defeated the Granite Bay freshman 6-4, 6-2, handing Kecki her first loss of the season. “She played a really smart match,” Del Oro coach Jill Tooker said. “They’re good friends and they talked before and after the match, so they handled it well.” Del Oro’s top doubles team — Bryn Bacharach and Erin Becker earned a trip to the SFL finals with three victories. In the semifinals, Bacharach and Becker defated Granite Bay’s No. 2 team 6-0, 7-5. All of the SFL finalists qualified for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II championships Nov. 14-15 at Johnson Ranch. In boys soccer, Del Oro beat Roseville at home 1-0. The Golden Eagles capped the season with a home win to finish 3-8-1 in the Sierra Foothill League. Colby Mitnik’s cross found Kevin Yanez at the far post and Yanez finished with a header for the game’s only goal, just before halftime. Del Oro will say goodbye to five seniors. Del Oro’s junior varsity team beat Roseville 1-0.
