Del Oro High School’s JV football team capitalized on four turnovers last Friday night to help pave the way to a season opening 41-0 win over Spanish Springs, of Sparks, Nev. Fumble recoveries by Brian Leveille, Jeremy Pilcher and Jahann Nargussi all setup touchdowns as the Golden Eagles built a 20-0 halftime lead and weren’t threatened in the second half. Nargussi scored on a one-yard run, while Michael Moore and Therin Heryford connected on a long 70-yard scoring pass. Moore also tossed a 29-yard scoring pass to Joe Becker. Heryford then busted the game wide open when he returned the second half kickoff 75 yards for another score. Rounding out the scoring was Jonathan Tuttle, who tallied on a 32-yard run, and Duncan Small, who added a 39-yard touchdown jaunt. Cody Clayton, Jonah Mekebri and Shane Peterson also stood out on defense for the Golden Eagles, who will play Westlake, of Westlake Village, at 5:30 p.m., Friday, on the opening day of the “Battle at the Capital” showcase. Del Oro hosts Westlake, of Southern California, at 3:30 p.m., Friday, to kick off the Battle at the Capital showcase.
