Rebounding from their first league setback of the season, the Del Oro JV boys basketball team squeezed past Rocklin’s Thunder, 61-57, on Feb. 4. The win, coming on the heels of a 60-56 defeat suffered at the hands of Granite Bay, left Del Oro with a Sierra Foothill League mark of 5-1 and also allowed the team to reach the 20-win plateau. “We didn’t play real well but just good enough to win,” said Del Oro coach Gregg Pistochini, whose Golden Eagles are now 20-3 on the year. “Right now we’re taking things one game at a time.” In the win over Rocklin, Danny Becker’s 16 points and 14 from Kyle Setterlund led the way. Mitch Pingree also sank 10 key points for the winners. The Golden Eagles and Granite Bay met back on Jan. 27 in Loomis with the visiting Grizzlies overcoming a nine-point first half deficit to take a 61-57 win. ~ Staff report
