It's a big week for Del Oro sports

Postseason play underway
-A +A
It’s playoff time at Del Oro High School this week as the Golden Eagles will send no fewer than five of their athletic teams and several individuals into post-season action. Here’s a quick capsule look at the Del Oro sports slate this week: Boys Tennis — The Golden Eagles open CIF Sac-Joaquin Section team play with a first round Div. II match Wednesday versus either Ponderosa or Sonora. If Del Oro was victorious in that match, the Golden Eagles would host either Vanden or Yuba City on Monday at 3:30 p.m. in a semi-final match. The championship is slated to be played Tuesday at a home site also at 3:30 p.m. In individual tennis play, Del Oro will send its top singles and doubles players to the Div. II tournament scheduled for Johnson Ranch in Roseville today and Friday. Competitors will come from the Sierra Foothill League, Sierra Valley Conference, Solano County Athletic Conference, Capital Athletic League, Metro, Tri-County Conference and Valley Oak League. Track — Del Oro’s track team will play host to the Sierra Foothill League finals Friday starting at 4 p.m. The trials were held Wednesday also at DO. The top placing varsity competitors will advance to next Wednesday’s Div. II section meet trials slated for Bella Vista High School. Baseball — Del Oro’s baseball team will meet Oak Ridge Wednesday in a first round CIF Div. II playoff game at 5 p.m. at Sacramento City College. The Golden Eagles, the No. 3 team from the SFL, needs to win the game against Oak Ridge to advance to a best of three bracket series against the winner of another first round game between Granite Bay and Rosemont. That series would be played Monday and Tuesday, also at SCC. The Div. II championship game is set for 6 p.m. Monday, May 25, at SCC. Softball — The Sierra Foothill League champion Lady Eagles will open Div. II play at 7 p.m. Friday night at the Sacramento Softball Complex against Sacramento High. A win by the Lady Eagles would move the Del Oro girls into Saturday’s 2 p.m. game against the winner of the Ponderosa-McClatchy game. Swimming — Del Oro’s boys and girls swimmers will vie in trials this Thursday (girls) and Friday (boys) at Tokay High in Lodi. The championships are slated for Saturday starting at 10 a.m., also at Tokay.
