One victim involved in a rollover crash Wednesday near Newcastle remains in serious condition at Sutter Roseville Medical Center, according to Robin Montgomery, spokesperson for Sutter Health.

The victim has been identified as Jessica Lenahan, 24, of Reno, Nev., according to Officer David Martinez, public information officer for the Auburn California Highway Patrol, based in Newcastle.

He identified the second victim as Matthew Selph, approximately 34, also of Reno.

Selph was not transported to the hospital, according to Montgomery.

The rollover crash and fire occurred at 5:55 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 80 between Newcastle and Ophir. He said the victims were in a gold 1973 Chevy van when a tire blew out and Lenahan, who was driving, lost control.

?She lost control and she swerved right into the rock embankment and (the vehicle) overturned and burst into flames,? Martinez said. ?When they (officers) got there the van was fully engulfed, so they don?t know which tire blew out.?

The crash temporarily closed two lanes of the freeway as fire crews worked to put out the flames of the fully involved vehicle.

One witness she said she saw the van?s tire pop and watched it swerve before crashing to a stop.  Read that account here.
