Hinch helps Hillmen boys win another invitational

Derrick Hinch placed among the top four in three jumping events in Saturday’s King Gilbert Invitational in Granite Bay, leading Placer High’s boys track and field squad to its second team title at an invitational this season. Hinch cleared the bar at 15 feet in the pole vault to win that event, in which he currently shares California’s top mark. The senior also finished second in the high jump (6-2) and was fourth in the long jump (20-5) for Placer, which won the Cordova Relays earlier this season. Also winning an event for Placer was Anthony Mangino, who captured first place in the discus throw with a fling of 141-3. Fellow Hillmen senior Donovan Buttram placed second in the event with a throw of 138-8. Senior Bobby Harlow cleared 6 feet in the high jump to take third in that event for Placer. He also placed fifth in the long jump with a mark of 20-4. Junior distance runner Lucas Stancliff finished third for the Hillmen in both the 800 (2 minutes, 2.92 seconds) and 1,600 meters (4:32.98). On the girls side, Placer junior Shannon Harcus finished third in the 1,600 with a time of 5:25.59. Senior Dylan Swisley took third in the girls 100 hurdles (16.14) and was also fifth in the pole vault (10-0). Placer will host Whitney in its first Pioneer Valley League dual meet Wednesday at LeFebvre Stadium. Landry leads Del Oro Del Oro High’s Mackenzi Landry finished well above the rest of the field in the girls pole vault at the King Gilbert Invitational. The sophomore was the only girl to clear 12 feet in the event. Golden Eagles sprinter Samantha Eggert finished among the top three in two events. The senior took second in the 100 with a time of 13.24 and was third in the 200 at 27.54. Senior Molly Watson took third in the high jump for the Golden Eagles, clearing the bar at 4-10. Placing fifth in the shot put for Del Oro were junior Blake Landry, who posted a mark of 45-4 on the boys side, and sophomore Karissa Willis, who had a throw of 32-2 3/4 in the girls event. Del Oro will host Rocklin in its first Sierra Foothill League dual on Wednesday.
