The Del Oro High softball team rolled the dice last Wednesday in an effort to try and beat the weather and get its key early season Sierra Foothill League game against Woodcreek into the books. But in the bottom of the third inning with Del Oro ahead 5-2, the skies opened up with rain forcing umpires to halt the contest. The game will be made up from its entirety on Friday, April 27, again at Mahany Park in Roseville. Before the deluge came, Del Oro’s Jordan Courage was in the midst of a big day at the plate. The senior smashed a triple to clear the loaded bases in the first inning with two outs to give Del Oro an early 3-0 lead. The Timberwolves (5-1, 14-1) answered with a bases-loaded, two-RBI double of their own with Courage now in the pitching circle. Eagles sophomore Courtney Smith banged another triple in the second inning that scored Hanna Miller, who led off the inning with a single. Smith would later score on a wild pitch. The game was supposed to be a makeup game from March 27 that was also rained out. Del Oro was scheduled to resume SFL play on Tuesday with a game at Roseville. Yesterday, Del Oro was to play at Granite Bay before Woodcreek calls on the Lady Eagles this afternoon at 4 p.m. Next week Del Oro plays at Rocklin on Tuesday, and at Nevada Union on Thursday, before returning to Mahany Park and the make-up game with Woodcreek.
