Granite Bay High School stayed a game behind Rocklin in the Sierra Foothill League with a 5-3 victory Thursday at Nevada Union.

Shut down by Cody Gardner on Tuesday, the Grizzlies (10-6 overall, 4-1 SFL) scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning Thursday to erase a 3-1 deficit against the Miners (8-9, 1-4), and senior Travis Magness pitched four hitless innings in relief with six strikeouts.

Juniors Vinny Esposito and Alex Ladrech drove in two runs each for Granite Bay. Esposito had two hits, and seniors Brett Bautista and Ryan Rosa each had a double and single.

The series finale is at 11 a.m. Saturday at Granite Bay.

Woodcreek 12, Roseville 5 — The Timberwolves (12-4, 3-2) scored four runs in the top of the second to back five stout innings by senior pitcher Tyler Milani in their win over the Tigers (7-9, 1-4) at Clancy Field.

“I think he’s the best pitcher we’ve seen this year, as far as what he can do with location and stuff,” Roseville coach Hank DeMello said, noting Milani had tricky movement on some pitches that had the Tigers flailing.

Cy Hynes doubled, singled and drove in two runs for Woodcreek, and junior Carson Farnworth homered in the seventh. Dylan Bell doubled, singled and had two RBI, and Alex Montes had two hits.

Junior Kyle Downie went 2 for 3 for Roseville.

Christian Bennett homered, and Taylour Reidt had two hits and two RBI for Rocklin.

Zach Labar had a two-run double and scored on a hit by Jake Noah during a three-run sixth that pulled Del Oro within 4-3.
