Granite Bay boys beat Rocklin for first time since 2007
Granite Bay High School rolled to its first boys basketball victory over Rocklin in nearly four years, an 86-40 Sierra Foothill League blowout Tuesday night in Rocklin.
The Grizzlies (18-3 overall, 3-1 SFL) lost to the Thunder six times in a row since winning at Rocklin 70-69 on Jan. 31, 2007. Granite Bay went on to win the SFL by one game over the Thunder.
All but one Granite Bay player scored. Jon Davis led the Grizzlies with 16 points, and Robert Duncan scored 10 in limited playing time after injuring his back on an early breakaway dunk. Ryan Ramirez came off the bench to score 10 points for Granite Bay.
Kyle Howarth had 10 rebounds and three steals for the Grizzlies, and Jacob Keys had four assists.
Rocklin dropped to 7-14 overall and 1-3 in the SFL.
Woodcreek 69, Nevada Union 51 – Devin Murphy scored a game-high 21 points, John Peska scored 15, and the Timberwolves (18-3, 4-0 SFL) took a 15-4 lead on their way to a rout over the Miners (8-10, 1-3) in Grass Valley.
Del Oro 75, Roseville 52 – The Tigers (9-12, 1-3 SFL) were tied at 34 before the visiting Golden Eagles (15-6, 2-2) finished the third quarter with a 14-3 run.
“We just never recovered from there,” Roseville coach Greg Granucci said. “We were doing a lot of good things, then we just stopped doing those things.”
Roseville’s full-court pressure and rebounding led to numerous stops on defense in the second quarter, and the Tigers held Del Oro to five points to trail 25-23 at halftime.
Andrew Schmidt had nine points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots for Roseville, and Trey Rosenberg had nine points and six rebounds. Daniel Rios scored eight points for the Tigers, and Matsu Mori came off the bench to score seven points and led the defensive effort in the second quarter.
Bella Vista 60, Oakmont 50 – The Vikings (12-8, 1-3 Capital Valley Conference) trailed the Broncos 43-42 after three quarters, then were outscored 17-8 in the fourth period. John Adenrele led Oakmont with 23 points, and Hunter Ford scored 12.
