Rewarded for a championship season in the Sierra Foothill League, the Del Oro Golden Eagles’ football team received a No. 2 seed for the upcoming CIF Sac-Joaquin Section football playoffs which will begin on Friday. With the No. 2 seed, Del Oro, 9-1 overall on the season, could conceivably play three straight home games if the Golden Eagles stayed on the win track in post season play. “We’re just glad to be at home,” said Del Oro coach Casey Taylor who recalled long road treks to Manteca and Patterson last season. “We were rewarded for being a league champion and that’s great.” Oakdale, 10-0, and champions of the Valley Oak League emerged in the 16-team field as the No. 1 seed. Manteca, 9-1, was seeded third while Los Banos, 9-1, was the No. 4 seed. Del Oro will open the post season at 7 p.m., Friday against Metro League No. 2 team Sacramento High. The Dragons defeated McClatchy, 29-14, last Saturday to become the final team to qualify for the post season. Friday’s first round schedule for CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Div. III teams is as follows: Upper Bracket Center (5-5) at Oakdale (10-0) Woodland (8-2) at Vista del Lago (7-3) Benicia (7-3) at Casa Roble (8-2) Vanden (7-3) at Los Banos (9-1) Lower Bracket Cosumnes Oaks (7-3) at Manteca (9-1) Pioneer (7-3) at Whitney (8-2) Patterson (7-3) at Placer (8-2) Sacramento (6-4) at Del Oro (9-1) Second round action is set for Friday, Nov. 18, at home sites. The Del Oro-Sacramento winner will play the Placer-Patterson winner at the site of the highest seeded team. Semi-final games are then set for the day after Thanksgiving, Nov. 25, then the Div. III championship contest will be played at California State University, Sacramento on either Dec. 2 or Dec. 3. Ticket prices for Friday’s game are $9 for adults and $5 for students. ~ Staff report
