Golden Eagles fall in St. Paul tourney finale

The Del Oro High School baseball team closed out a tough run at the St. Paul Tournament in Hacienda Heights March 26, falling to Monte Vista 3-1. Matt Leak and Ben Consulo had three hits apiece, but the Golden Eagles (3-7) could not string together a rally against their opponents from Watsonville. Hunter Welch pitched five solid innings, giving up two runs while Trevor Thomas gave up one run in the sixth. Chaz Carruth went 2-for-3 and scored Del Oro's lone run on a double by Leak in the seventh. The Eagles were edbed by Bishop Montgomery 7-6 on Tuesday despite three hits and two RBIs from Thomas. Jake Bews was 2-for-4 with a double and three steals. Del Oro is back on the diamond today, March 27, hosting Nevada Union. Bear River 7, Lincoln 6 at Lincoln ” Down 6-2 in the seventh inning, the Bruins rallied Tuesday to remain undefeated in Pioneer Valley League play. The Bruins will travel to play El Dorado today at 4 p.m.
