If you are a high school baseball team in the foothills area these days, beating the weather is almost just as important as defeating an opponent. Last week the Del Oro baseball team — playing its first game in nearly two weeks — ventured to Fair Oaks on Thursday and returned home with a 3-1 win over Del Campo. The Golden Eagles received strong pitching from starter Jared Rohe, who hurled six strong innings and allowed six hits to earn the win, and relief pitcher Gareth Rohe, who picked up the save by keeping the Cougars in check in the 7th. Leading the Del Oro hitters was Max Magleby who was 2x3 with a home run and two runs batted in. Also providing key offense were Ryan Xepoleos, who was 2x3 with a RBI, and Taylor Thomas, Josh Akin, Jesse Lang and Russell Smith, who all added one hit apiece. In an earlier contest, the Golden Eagles scored three runs in the top of the 7th inning to rally past Whitney in a 7-6 win. Both Lang and Xepoleos paired hits for the Golden Eagles while Magleby contributed a triple. This coming Monday, March 28, Del Oro is slated to host Oak Ridge at 4 p.m. On Wednesday, March 30, the Golden Eagles will play Placer at James Field in a game, which will begin at 3:30 p.m.
