Jordan Broyles racked up 16 kills and Clay Cosbie added 13 more as Del Oro’s boys volleyball team swept past Roseville, 3-0, last week in a Sierra Foothill League match. Del Oro, 2-2 in SFL matches and 12-7 overall, topped the Tigers by scores of 25-20, 25-22 and 25-15. Aaron Miller collected 20 assists for the Golden Eagles, while Jake Ball added 10. Del Oro also went 2-2 at the Bellarmine Tournament last weekend in San Jose. The Golden Eagles defeated Amador Valley and Nevada Union but fell to De La Salle and St. Ignatius from San Francisco. The Golden Eagles travel to SFL leading Rocklin tonight for a 6 p.m. match. Thunder get back at Golden Eagles After suffering a close one-run loss to the Del Oro baseball team earlier last week, the Rocklin Thunder came back and avenged the Sierra Foothill League setback to the Golden Eagles —in a very big way. Playing the Thunder in back-to-back SFL games to end last week’s busy league slate, Del Oro fell victim to an Austin Dick one-hitter in a 10-0 loss on Thursday and then didn’t fare any better on Friday collecting just two his in a 12-0 loss. Russell Smith collected Del Oro’s lone hit in the first game loss to the Thunder, while Jesse Lang and Jared Rohe hit safely in the second contest. The two losses dropped DO’s SFL record to 1-2 in early league standings. Granite Bay at 3-0 and Rocklin at 2-1 were the league leaders at the end of last week’s games. The SFL will qualify its top three teams to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Div. II playoffs. The Golden Eagles were slated to take on Nevada Union in three games this week. The final contest will be at NU in Grass Valley at 4 p.m. Friday. Del Oro will take a break from SFL play and play Jesuit at home next Thursday before resuming SFL action on Monday, April 25, with a road game at Granite Bay. Soccer bests Woodcreek, 3-1 Kaleigh Landberg, Lauren Gollnick and Jordan McDaniel all scored goals to help power the Del Oro Lady Eagles soccer team past Woodcreek, 3-1, Friday night in a Sierra Foothill League match. Playing under the lights at Del Oro, the Lady Eagles also received a strong match from goalie Casey Bell in subduing the Timberwolves. The win leaves Del Oro with a 2-3 SFL record and a 3-3-2 overall slate. Del Oro, earlier in the week, dropped a 2-1 test at Roseville. Gollnick tallied the Lady Eagles’ lone score in the match, which was scoreless at halftime. Del Oro will play at Nevada Union at 4 p.m. Friday. The Lady Eagles will then be idle until hosting Granite Bay on April 27, following the spring break. ~ Staff report
