Coach Tony Camillucci was happy to get all 17 of his Lady Hillmen a good chunk of playing time.
Sophomore Raquel Quirarte tallied 11 points and freshman Baylee Vanderdoes and junior Elena Daniels both added 10, as Placer defeated Marysville 65-12 in the opener of the Live Oak Tournament Thursday night.
“We’re starting to play better,” said Camillucci, whose team has allowed just 20 points in the last two games. “We’re making shots we missed in the first game (Foundation Game vs. Roseville). Our goal is to get better every game.”
Camillucci feels the team is starting to get in a rhythm and used to playing with each other.
Placer plays in the second round of the tournament Friday at 7 p.m.
“Tomorrow should be a better test,” Camillucci said.

Bear River 60, McClymonds 57 — Kaitlyn Reina scored 16 points, Cindy Solomon added 15, and the Bruins won their first official game of the season at the American Canyon Tournament.  Savannah Welz added 10 points and Teryn Rath had nine points and eight rebounds for the Bruins (1-0), who will play the hosts of the tournament Saturday at 6:30 p.m. “Our post players played excellent,” said assistant coach Merlin Elders. “We had a lot of rebounds. Our guards, Savannah and Cindy, played great and opened our offense.”

Del Oro 53, Lodi 15 — The Golden Eagles (1-0), seeking their eighth straight victory in the Sonora Tournament, started off like champions Thursday night. Natalie Sohn scored 17 points, Stephanie Geyer added 11 points and six rebounds, and Lauren Heyn had eight points for Del Oro, which is the top seed in the six-team tournament and plays Bret Harte at 4 p.m. Friday.
