Del Oro High’s girls basketball team took an 8-7, pre-season record with them on the road today as the Lady Eagles traveled to tackle Clovis West in their final non-league game before the opening of Sierra Foothill League play next week. Del Oro went just 1-2 in its division of the West Coast Jamboree, played at Miramonte High, in Orinda. Del Oro opened tournament action by dropping a 40-35 decision to Casa Grande, of Petaluma. The Lady Eagles then rebounded for a 59-35 win over American, of Fremont. In their final contest, the Lady Eagles were clipped by Moreau Catholic, of Hayward, 47-43, after scoring just six points in the final quarter. In the win over American, junior Stephanie Geyer poured in 24 points and snared 20 rebounds to pace the Lady Eagles. Brianna Ruiz scored 16 more points, grabbed six boards and dished out four assists. Natalie Sohn added nine points and Jessica Hinsken dished out six assists. In their opener against Casa Grande, the Lady Eagles could not overcome 24 turnovers as Casa Grande came back in the fourth quarter to win. Geyer scored 11 points and added nine rebounds, while Ruiz tossed in 10 points for Del Oro. Sophomore Mia Maglinte added seven more points for the Black and Gold. Del Oro and Moreau battled back and forth in the consolation game after trailing 18-15 at the end of a quarter. Del Oro jumped out to a 27-22 lead at the halftime break. In the second half, Moreau tightened things up defensively and limited Del Oro to just 16 points for the win. Geyer’s 19 points and 16 by Ruiz topped the Lady Eagles, who will open defense of their SFL title on Jan. 13, at Rocklin.
