Frosh-soph girls win Thunder meet

Del Oro’s girls frosh-soph track team mustered up 91 points to win its division at last week’s Thunder Invitational meet hosted by Rocklin High. Leading the way for the Del Oro girls were hurdler Emily Nash and middle distance runner Amy Heyn. Nash captured the 100 hurdles in a winning 17.44 seconds and then came back to win the 300 hurdles in a time of 49.69. Heyn won the 800 meters in 2:29.83 and was second in the 1600 meters in 5:37.72. Other top efforts for the Del Oro girls came from the winning 1600 meter relay team of Nash, Sydney Proiette, Siena Morgan and Libby Runte, who clocked a mark of 4:24.56. Morgan also placed third in the triple jump at 25-11. In the high jump, Cameron Brening and Brooke Simmons tied for second by both clearing 4-6. Meanwhile, Morgan grabbed a third in the triple jump (25-11), and Kelly Schostag was fourth in the 800 (2:36.25). Top marks from Del Oro’s girls team came from Hailey Parkhouse-McAllister, who placed second in the 100 meter hurdles in 17.84 and sixth in the 300 hurdles in 51.91. Emma Freeman was sixth in the 800 meters (2:29.72), while in the pole vault Samantha Eilert was second at a height of 9-6. In the varsity boys pole vault, Chris Ormes placed fourth and teammate Brett O’Hair fifth, both with heights of 12 feet even. Trevor Stephens was also 5th in the varsity boys 3200 meter run in a time of 10:12.44. Del Oro’s frosh-soph boys finished third in their division. Top marks came from the 4x100 relay squad of Jeff Setterlund, Tanner Pelle, Jonathan Tuttle and Austin Smith, who placed fourth. Smith (53.78) and Tuttle (54.45) were also second and third, respectively, in the 400 meters. In the pole vault. Trevor Petrul placed second at 10 feet 6 inches., while James Corbett was second in the 110 hurdles (17.27) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (45.05). Del Oro will travel to Granite Bay for a Sierra Foothill League dual meet on Wednesday, April 13, and then host its Del Oro Invitational on Friday, April 15. ~ Staff report
