Freshman's even par outing leads Del Oro boys to victory over PonderosaBy: Journal sports staff
Del Oro boys golf coach Hal Steinback says on any given day he has five different kids that could wind up being a medalist out on the links.
On Tuesday at Cameron Park Country Club, it was Josh Sedeno’s turn.
The freshman fired an even-par 36 and helped the Golden Eagles improve to 6-0 in non-league play with a 200-211 come-from-behind victory over Ponderosa.
“They had us beat going into the last group coming in and we turned it around again,” Steinback said. “It seems like that’s been our pattern lately.”
Sedeno and Justin Raskin (37) were shooting as Del Oro’s No. 5 and 6 golfers against Ponderosa. The two beat their opponents by 18 strokes.
“It’s nice to have a well-rounded group,” Steinback said. “Anybody we put down at five or six comes through for us.”
Sedeno’s outing was his best of the season.
“He’s capable,” Steinback said. “He’s a very talented athlete. Sometimes I forget he’s only a freshman. Hopefully this will continue on to league play.”
Jahaan Nargussi (39), Louie Euer (43), Ryan Takayama (45) and Derrick Tilcher (45) rounded out the scoring for the Eagles, who open Sierra Foothill League play against Woodcreek Thursday afternoon at Turkey Creek.
