The Tax-Aide Program will be offering free federal and state tax preparation again this year in Loomis. The service is offered by appointment only on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons at the Loomis Library and is sponsored by the IRS and AARP. The service is available to all taxpayers with no age or membership restrictions. All returns are filed electronically and fast refunds are available by direct deposit. The service is not only for seniors, but for anyone who would like assistance with their taxes. There are no age or membership restrictions. Those who have farm or property income or home offices are not eligible to use the free service. All returns are filed electronically and fast refunds are available by direct deposit. Tax preparation is done by trained counselors who work from Feb. 1 through April 15. Experienced volunteers receive days of refresher training and new volunteers get a minimum of 10 days. All volunteers must pass an extensive test each year to become IRS certified. Prior to filing season, volunteers take a four-day instruction program. This year, appointments may be made only by calling 652-5130; do not call the library.
