A Foresthill man died Friday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Foresthill Road. The California Highway Patrol reported that a Toyota Yaris subcompact went off the road and traveled up an embankment about a quarter of a mile west of Driver's Flat Road at about 8:13 a.m. The driver was identified late Friday by the Placer County Sheriff’s Office as Edward Alvey, 79, of Foresthill. A witness told the Highway Patrol that the man's car appeared out of control at a high rate of speed as it rounded one sharp turn on a snaking downhill section of westbound Foresthill Road. It traveled into the oncoming lane, moved sideways back into its own lane then veered across the eastbound lane before hitting an eight-inch curb and traveling uphill on the embankment. Officer Eric Karla said the man was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle, suffering apparent fatal head injuries. Two-way traffic was stopped along the narrow mountain road until 9:30 a.m.
