South Placer Fire District firefighters put out a vehicle fire Thursday afternoon at a rural property off Auburn Folsom Road.
The fire destroyed a 20-foot motor home owned by Mayo Young at his home on Cripple Creek Road in Newcastle. Young said he had started up the engine on the 1970s recreational vehicle and it had been “running fine” for about 10 minutes when the fire broke out.
“I jumped out to get a hose, but I couldn’t keep up with it,” Young said.
Battalion Chief Karl Fowler, of South Placer Fire, said the agency’s response time was “excellent” and firefighters kept the flames from spreading to nearby buildings.
