Find summertime fun close to home

The economic woes and rising gas prices are keeping lots of folks close to home this summer. But that doesn’t mean summertime has to be dull. Local businesses offer some great ways to help make local time fun time. Jimboy’s Classic Car Shows Along with the free classic car shows held from 4-9 p.m., on the second Saturday of every month at Loomis Depot parking lot, Jimboy’s will sponsor a free motorcycle show on Saturday, Aug. 1. Loomis Farmer’s Market Blue Goose Fruit Shed Saturdays, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Breakfast served plus fresh, local produce, eggs, meat, honey, trees, and crafts. Soda fountain Main Drug Store 3685 Taylor Road Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m., Sat. 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Experience the good old days when folks sat at the drug store counter for eats and cool treats. Enjoy cones, shakes, floats, sundaes and banana splits, along with sandwiches, soft drinks and coffee served at an old fashioned soda fountain. Take a float or sleep under the stars Black Bear Outdoors 3587 Taylor Road 652-2327 Rent a raft, canoe or kayak from Black Bear Outdoors for a float on a local pond, lake or river. Wear a life jacket. From $29/day. Or if you want to sleep out under the stars, they rent backpacking and camping gear. Wine Wednesdays Café Zorro 5911 King Road 660-1612 On Wednesdays, there is no corkage fee when guests bring their own bottles of wine, plus Café Zorro offers special glass pours of wine. They also serve gourmet gelato for a refreshing cool-down. Jazz Gitan will perform acoustic jazz from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 18.
