Fasani heads class of Del Oro Hall of Fame inductees
Several former outstanding athletes, CIF Sac-Joaquin Section championship teams, former coaches and community contributors head the list of the fourth class of inductees to the Del Oro High School athletic Hall of Fame.
Heading the list of inductees is 1997 graduate Randy Fasani, a four-sport varsity letterman who was a Parade All-American in football that later went on to play at Stanford and in the National Football League with the Carolina Panthers.
“It’s exciting to be going in with such a talented group,” said Fasani who now resides in the San Joaquin Valley and recently was named the head football coach at Ripon Christian High. “It’s a big group of athletes, teams and coaches. A lot of history there.”
At Del Oro, Fasani lettered in varsity football, basketball, swimming and track. In football he was a three-year varsity starter at quarterback and threw for 5,299 yards and 53 touchdown passes.
He guided the Golden Eagles to three straight Sierra Foothill League football championship seasons and as a sophomore in 1994 engineered Del Oro’s 22-0 CIF Sac-Joaquin Div. II section championship win over Rio Americano.
At Stanford, Fasani, who in 2008 was named as the No. 4 all-time player on the Sacramento Bee’s top 100 players from the past 50 years, was an All-Pac 10 honorable mention pick as a senior when he threw for 1,479 yards and 13 touchdowns. He was later a fifth round pick by the Carolina Panthers in the 2002 NFL Draft.
Three CIF Sac-Joaquin Section championship teams will also be inducted at the May 10 event which is scheduled for the Blue Goose Events Center in Loomis. They include:
1989 Football Team – The Golden Eagles led by Mike Breckenridge, Clint Nelson, Greg Hoffman, Chris Schultz, David Allen and Brandon Barker went 11-1 and defeated East Union of Manteca, 29-22, to win the school’s first CIF grid crown.
