An early morning Auburn fire caused $85,000 of damage, but no one was hurt. Seven Cal Fire crews, assisted by the Placer Hills Fire Department, responded to a four-plex building fire in the Auburn Greens Condominium complex on Sapphire Drive at 2:50 a.m. Thursday, according to Chelsea Fox, spokeswoman for Cal Fire. Fox said the fire started in a vacant unit that was currently being remodeled. “The investigator determined it was an accidental cause, most likely electrical,” Fox said. The fire caused “heavy damage” at a cost of about $85,000, mostly to the unit where it began, according to Fox. No one was hurt in the blaze, Fox said. “Everybody got out safe,” Fox said. “That’s a good thing, especially when they start in the early hour of the morning, middle of the night.” The fire was contained by 3:35 a.m. and Cal Fire crews planned to return to the site to check on it Thursday, according to Fox. With the fire, Cal Fire has a reminder for residents, Fox said. “(It’s) just a reminder to everyone to check their smoke alarm, just make sure they have an active smoke alarm,” she said. “Any time we have a fire in a residence in the middle of the night, it’s a good reminder.” ~Bridget Jones
