Eagle boys moving up in the rankings

-A +A
Del Oro’s boys basketball team picked up a big Sierra Foothill League win Feb. 4 at home versus Rocklin and were rewarded by moving up two spots in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section’s latest Div. II Power Ratings. Friday’s 72-41 win over the Thunder found the Golden Eagles breaking opening a close game by out-pointing the Thunder, 43-27, over the middle two quarters and then finishing off their rivals with a 15-2 fourth quarter spree. The win squared the Golden Eagles’ SFL record at 3-3 with four league contests left to play. Last night Del Oro tried to shake up the league standings a bit when the Golden Eagles ventured to co-league leading Woodcreek. On Friday, Del Oro, now 16-7 overall on the season, will play host to Nevada Union with varsity tip off at 7:30 p.m. The Golden Eagles will be looking to avenge a first-round loss suffered at the hands of the Miners in Grass Valley. In the win over Rocklin, Del Oro put forth a balanced offensive attack that proved too much for the Thunder to handle. Leading Del Oro on offense was post player Alan Kidwell with 14 points. He was followed by Jordan Broyles’ 13 markers and 12 from Austin Soldano. Also aiding the Del Oro cause were Kyle Russell’s nine points, eight from Taylor Bergthold, five by Luke Cochran, four each from Rex Hime and Luis Parache, and three by Kyle Duffin. Getting back to the power ratings, in boys Div. II, SFL co-leader Woodcreek is still atop the rankings, which are used to seed the playoffs. The Timberwolves are followed in the top eight by Antelope, Bella Vista, Cordova, St. Mary’s of Stockton, Del Campo, Fairfield and Wood. The second eight is made up of No. 9 Bethel, Del Oro, Vallejo, Oakmont, Rio Americano, Vacaville, Inderkum and River Valley. If the playoffs opened based on these ratings, Del Oro would play on the road at Fairfield. Next Monday’s third power ratings release will be the final until the section announces its playoff pairings on Saturday, Feb. 19. ~ Staff report Sierra Foothill League Boys Basketball Standings Won Lost Granite Bay 5 1 Woodcreek 5 1 Del Oro 3 3 N.
