Re: Expanded Creek Protection Zone (Loomis News, Jan. 18, 2009) – Landowners with Loomis creeks or drainage ways of any kind are encouraged to attend the Jan. 27 workshop (7 p.m.) at the Train Depot. The Open Space 2 Committee recommends expanding the Army Corps 100-foot protection each side of the major "blue line" creeks so that it would also apply to all smaller creeks and drainages. This non-development zone means no structures, no fencing out of wildlife, no agriculture, and very limited vegetation control. Each 100 feet of creek length represents about ¼-acre on each side (e.g. two acres for 400 feet of creek). This could significantly reduce the usable space on your lot, for yourself or a future lot split. (Currently the amount of protection is based on stream analysis by a qualified professional rather than a "one-size-fits-all" rule.) Come learn more and express your views.
