More than 1400 swimmers competed over three days at the Suburban Swim League’s annual swimming championship meet held at Sierra College. Teams entered in the championship meet included the Broadstone Barracudas, from Folsom; College Greens Gators, from Sacramento; El Dorado Hills Taz, Folsom Sea Otters, Granite Bay Gators, Loomis Basin Dolphins, Park Terrace Penguins, from Sacramento; and the Sierra Sharks, from Shingle Springs. The Suburban Swim League has been in existence in the greater Sacramento area since 1967. The founder of the league, Gloria Zielke, has attended every Champs event since the inception of the league and was in attendance again this weekend. The Presidents Trophy was officially named the Gloria E. Zielke award this year. Out of the eight participating teams and large contingent of swimmers, the Loomis Basin Dolphins placed third as a team. Overall, the Dolphins had seven athletes place in the top five of their respective events. High Point Award winners included Dolphins in the 17/18 boys: Collin Johnston, first, Sam Baker, second, and Peter Weddle, fourth. Also faring well in the high point competition were 9/10 boys Jacob Filmore, 1st place; 13/14 boys Wyatt Neuman, 2nd place; 11/12 girls Cassidy Marquez, 5th place; and 7/8 girls Ella Jimenez, 3rd place.
