AUBURN CA - A dog was pepper-sprayed and removed from a Newcastle home after it reportedly bit a woman Friday. Dispatchers were told that the woman was being attacked by a “wolf-dog” at a Maleza Lane residence, near the Auburn-Newcastle city line, said Dena Erwin, Placer County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman. An air ambulance was called in and both sheriff’s deputies and Cal Fire personnel were dispatched. A deputy pepper-sprayed the dog inside the house and Placer County Animal Control took it away for an evaluation, Erwin said. The woman was described by fire personnel as having minor injuries, Erwin said. She did not require medical transport and the helicopter was called off. The dog was described as a malamute that had possibly been crossbred with another species unknown Friday afternoon, Erwin said. “The lady was apparently playing with him when it all started,” Erwin said. – Gus Thomson
