Del Oro will close out its Sierra Foothill League dual meet track season this week with a meet against Granite Bay. The Golden Eagles will also compete in Friday’s Nevada Union Invitational and Saturday’s Sac Town meet for JV athletes at Whitney on Saturday. Del Oro will then entertain the rest of the league field at next week’s Sierra Foothill League trials and finals on Wednesday and Friday. In last Saturday’s action at the Meet of Champions in Sacramento, Del Oro pole vault competitor Mackenzie Landry, one of the state’s leaders in the event, captured first place with a mark of 12 feet four inches. In other top Del Oro efforts from the MOC, Caitlin Devitt-Payne was ninth in the 1600 meters in 5:20.58 while the women’s 4x100 relay team was 8th in 50.93 and the 4x400 team third in 4:04.02 behind Bear Creek of Stockton and Heritage of Antioch. Del Oro’s JV relay 4x400 team grabbed a 6th in 3:35.35, while pole vaulter Chris Ormes went 10-8 for a JV sixth place finish. In recent action against Roseville, top marks included the following: JV Boys: Del Oro 85 Roseville 50 Brandon Acuna, winning Long Jump with a 20' 5" jump, also winning both relays and taking 2nd in the 200m. Blake Covey, winning the 400m dash in 53.9 and helping our winning 4x400m relay JV Girls: Del Oro 103, Roseville 28 Caitlin Curtis, winning 800m in 2:34, also on both relays that took first. Ciara Clement, winning the Long Jump 16'1" and the 200m - 27.2. Lauren Anderson, winning the 100m hurdles in 17.6 seconds, the 300m hurdles in 51.21 seconds and anchoring the winning 4x400m relay team. Varsity Boys: Del Oro 71, RV 64 Keith Schostag, winning the 1600m in 4:46; Tyler Spangler, winning 3200m in 11:18; Jesse Stafford, winning Pole Vault with a 12' vault Varsity Girls: Del Oro 74, Roseville 60 Maurine Watkins won 400m in 61.9 and leading 4x400m relay to a win. Jessica Mixon, winning the 100m hurdles in 17.1 seconds, 3rd in the triple jump with 32'5". Caitlin Devitt-Payne, winning the 1600m (5:28) and 2nd in the 800m (2:28). Kelsey Seaman, winning the 800m (2:27) and our 4x400m relay. Kendall Moss, winning the High Jump with a 4'6" jump and the Long Jump, going 16' 21/2".
