DO girls still unbeaten

By News Sports Staff The Del Oro High girls basketball team soared to the championship at its own Del Oro Invitational last Saturday, crushing Woodcreek 54-19. The Golden Eagles led 19-1 after the first quarter and never looked back. Junior forward Belle Obert had 17 points and two blocks as Del Oro improved to 8-0 on the year. Junior forward Crystal Sewell scored eight points and tournament MVP Madeline Campbell added seven points and eight rebounds. Freshman forward Brianna Ruiz tossed in seven points while junior guard Bailey Humes had three assists and three steals. On Friday, Campbell put on a show. The junior guard was 8-for-8 from 3-point range and finished with 26 points as Del Oro beat Colfax 63-46. Ruiz had a big game with eight points, five rebounds and four assists while Sewell tossed in 11 points. Junior point guard Becky Duncan, who was an all-tournament pick along with Obert, had six assists against Colfax. Del Oro topped Placer 51-45 in the tournament opener last Thursday. Campbell scored a game-high 25 points, while Crystal Sewell and Belle Obert added 13 and 11 points, respectively. The win was the Golden Eagles’ second over the Hillgals in three days. Sewell had 13 of her 19 points in the first half and Campbell finished with 17 points as Del Oro topped Placer 56-54 in a non-league game in Auburn. Del Oro rallied from a five-point halftime deficit to earn the victory. The Golden Eagles will return to action next Monday against Lincoln of San Francisco at the West Coast Jamboree in Diamond.
