By: Gus Thomson, Journal Staff Writer
Placer County sheriff’s deputies answered a call for help on the Foresthill Bridge and prevented a distraught woman from a possible suicide jump today. Sheriff’s dispatch received a call to alert emergency personnel that a distraught woman in her 20s was on the bridge, Sgt. Kurt Walker said. Deputies spotted her crouched on the walkway on the north side of the bridge shortly before noon. They were able to approach her and detain her without incident. The woman was taken into custody for a psychiatric evaluation. The 730-foot-high bridge just east of the Foresthill exit has been the scene of nearly 50 deaths from falls and jumps over its 36-year history. Foresthill Road traffic was stopped temporarily at the bridge during the emergency but had resumed shortly after noon.
