Using another one of their patented quick starts to build a big lead, the Del Oro JV football squad made it four straight wins on the season by throttling visiting Oak Ridge, 42-10, last Friday night at Eagle Stadium. Following the same method of operation they have used in all four of their victories this season, coach Jerry Van Lengen’s troops scored three touchdowns in the last seven minutes of the second quarter on their way to building a big 28-3 lead by halftime. Johnathon Tuttle got the scoring going by capping a first-quarter drive with a five-yard touchdown run. Mason Hume’s extra point boot made the score 7-0 Golden Eagles. Following an Oak Ridge field goal, the Golden Eagles put together another nice march that culminated when quarterback Michael Moore scooped up a teammate’s fumble near the goal line and ran it in for six points. Humes’ second point after kick made it, 14-3, DO. Del Oro’s defense then came alive as after solid efforts via Brendan Johnson and a sack by Dylan Kainrath. The Golden Eagles stopped an Oak Ridge drive when Jahann Nargussi stripped a Trojan ball carrier of the ball and returned the fumble 63-yards for a touchdown and a 21-3 Golden Eagles lead. Van Lengen then called for an onsides kick and Del Oro caught the Trojan napping as Daniel Becker recovered near mid-field. With the first half clock winding down, the Golden Eagles engineered a nice drive that was capped when Moore found Nargussi on an 8-yard scoring play. Humes’ fourth extra point boot made the score, 28-3, Del Oro at the break. Del Oro kept up its fine play in the third quarter as Nargussi, running behind the strong blocking efforts of Hayden Craig and Dustin Gazzangia, bulled over from a yard away to cap a drive and make the score, 35-3. In the fourth quarter, a nice run by Duncan Small was the key play in a drive that was capped by a 33-yard touchdown run by Shane Peterson.
