Del Oro's female administrators reminisce about 'golden' years

Del Oro High School’s lady administrators met recently and compared the school’s history through the years. They are Madeline Roye, Dean of Girls and vice principal from 1968 to 1995; Judy Payne, Spanish teacher and assistant principal from 1978 to 2003; Gail Davidson, math teacher, assistant principal and principal from 1977 to 1999; and Bridget Farren, physical education teacher and assistant principal from 2001 to the present. “We thought it appropriate to meet with the four ladies that served as administrators since Del Oro just celebrated 50 years,” Payne said. “Also, Gail and I realized that Bridget had not met our inspiring predecessor, Madeline Roye." According to Payne, some of the discussion included remembering the old Loomis water tower and how students used to paint staff names up there, homecoming week and the floats, the Golden Eagle Marching Band, athletics, testing, and the ever powerful “Fight Song.” “When we thought about why we all loved working at Del Oro High School we agreed: Great students, a caring and compassionate teaching staff, and a supportive community,” Payne said. “It was amazing to be with the women who contributed so much to our high school’s standards and philosophies,” Farren said. “I had fun every day and they paid me to be there,” Roye said. ¬– Staff report
