For the second straight season, it took a mighty effort to expel the Del Oro High baseball team from the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs. Granite Bay ended Del Oro’s season Tuesday night at Sacramento City College, but it wasn’t without plenty of drama. The Grizzlies’ Travis Israel got Ian Schnell to ground out with the bases loaded as Granite Bay won 9-8 in eight innings, earning a spot in Monday’s Division II championship game. Del Oro forced the winner-take-all game after Mason Magleby pitched a complete game in a 5-2 win earlier Tuesday. In that game, Schnell belted an RBI-single for the go-ahead run in the sixth inning and Ben Consulo tacked on another run with an RBI-single. Schnell doubled to knock in the final run of the game. In the late game, Del Oro jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first inning. Magleby ripped an RBI-triple, Matt Leak had a two-run single and Consulo had an RBI-single. Granite Bay will face Rocklin or Ponderosa in Monday’s final. Del Oro lost last season’s section title game to Ponderosa on a walk-off home run.
