Del Oro High School student Ariadne Duncan has earned a spot in this year’s California All-State Honor Choir, a select group of the highest-ranking high school singers in the state. The All-State Honor Choir will perform at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at the Sacramento Convention Center and is open to the public. Admission is free. The Community Center Theater is located at 13th and streets. Ariadne, 16, said she was amazed and excited to be chosen for the choir. “It’s a great opportunity, and a difficult and challenging experience,” she said. According to Del Oro choir director Lisa Sands, last fall nine Del Oro students auditioned for the California American Choral Director's Association’s Regional Honor Choir that performed in November in Clovis. Ariadne’s performance earned her a spot on the all-state choir. Sands said she is impressed by the “accomplishment of this fine young woman” who “is very talented and a great person as well.” Ariadne said she has always loved to sing and started choir at Del Oro as a freshman. “I like soul music … everything jazz, R&B,” Ariadne said. “For choir my favorite is gospel.” But her favorite song is “Bridge Over Troubled Waters.” Ariadne said she sang it as a solo her freshman year when The Young Americans group appeared at Del Oro.
