A good, old-fashioned taste of home cooking helped spur the Del Oro High wrestling team to a top flight performance at last weekend’s CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Div. II championship tournament. Wrestling on their home mat, the Golden Eagles racked up a first-place total of 222 points and qualified 10 wrestlers to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Master’s Tournament, which will be held Thursday and Friday at the Stockton Arena. Del Oro’s 222 point total was followed by Bella Vista (177.5), Granite Bay (150.5), Casa Roble (126.5) and Oakmont (105). Grabbing first places for the Golden Eagles were Zach Ruybal at 113 pounds and Dylan Kainrath at 170 pounds. Checking in with second places for the Black and Gold were Patrick Neu at 145 pounds, Austin Branum at 152 pounds, Kevin Love at 182 pounds and freshman Saul Meneses at 285 pounds. Also qualifying for the Golden Eagles were third-place finishers Isaac Blackburn (106), Johnny Zieour (132) and Tanner Woods (220). Ian Gassaway, who went 4-2 in the tourney, also qualified at 120 pounds as the fifth-place finisher.
