Del Oro volleyball team's loss sets up clash with Rocklin

The Del Oro High volleyball team suffered a setback in its quest for a Sierra Foothill League title Wednesday night in Grass Valley. The Golden Eagles lost to Nevada Union 25-18, 25-19, 25-22, falling into a tie with Rocklin atop the SFL standings. Del Oro will face Rocklin on Monday in Loomis. Belle Obert led the Eagles in the loss to the Miners. The junior had 10 kills, 18 digs and served 11-for-11. Aly Duffin pounded seven kills and Emily Mattevi added six. Bailey Humes dished out 17 assists for Del Oro (24-4 overall, 8-2 SFL) “We just had a few too many players not feeling well,” Del Oro coach Stu Kageta said. In junior varsity action, Del Oro lost to Nevada U nion 25-20, 19-25, 15-7. The Eagles fell to 8-2 in the SFL. Del Oro’s freshmen lost to Nevada Union in two games, falling to 5-5 in league play.
