The Eagles emerged victorious in their first Sierra Foothill League measuring-stick contest.

The Del Oro boys tennis team scored a 6-3 victory Thursday in Loomis against a tough Rocklin squad.

“We always have a really close one with Rocklin,” said Eagles coach Jill Tooker. “It kind of let us know where we stood in league and section. We feel really good about it. We played really hard today.”

 In singles matches, No. 2Galen Champlin (6-2, 6-4), No. 3 Gabe Ezcurra (6-2, 6-1) and No. 4 Jesse Ahlquist (6-4, 6-1) triumphed for Del Oro (5-0, 2-0).

For the second straight league contest the Eagles swept the doubles competition. Teams of Will Lamorra and Alexis Ezcurra (6-1, 6-2), Clark Powers and Ethan Tooker (1-6, 6-2, 6-2) and Ben Walter and Joey Bollard (6-3, 6-2) earned wins.

Del Oro will host Nevada Union Tuesday before heading to SFL power Granite Bay Thursday.

“It’s projected that Granite Bay is probably the best team in the league,” Tooker said. “But we beat them 5-4 last year. We know it will be a tough one but we’re optimistic.”
